Matthew Dickman 17th March 2020 Dr. Sean Agriss Dear Dr. Sean Agriss, I felt that the work in this class made a big difference in how I view teaching and how I want to set up my own classroom. The work that I felt was the most helpful were the text presentations. Each time I gave a presentation I felt that it helped me understand what I  had read even more and think about different methods that I could teach and how I could teach the book in my own classroom. It was great to be able to watch my fellow classmates do the same. I thought their work was excellent, especially when it came to the grammar texts. This was very helpful because I had little to no knowledge of what texts to use in my class, or what I would feel comfortable turning to in my classroom for answers when it comes to grammar. Originally I wanted to do something other than a blog post and make it more fun and accessible to my classmates as I believe that sharing with others can really help both parties when it comes to preparing for the education program and for teaching. I think this is the next best way to share with you all and hope you enjoy reading my experiences and how they helped me feel more prepared to become a teacher.  Speaking/listening:   1. My first artifact for this is the experience I had in Communications 200 class giving one of my first public speeches and how that helped me become more prepared as a teacher of speaking and listening.  In Communications 200, the class was assigned a personal narrative speech. Essentially we were told to tell a story and if we hit the time mark of three minutes we would get credit for the speech at a full credit. Teaching Literature by: Matt Dickman How to Teach English Literature: Overcoming Cultural Poverty by Jennifer Webb What was this text about?  This text was about how to teach Literature in an English classroom as well as how to teach students who may come from a family below the poverty line. The text was divided into three different sections. The first, Planning, Organization, and Work Practices. The second, Reading and Analysis. The third, Writing. In each of these sections there are many different sub-sections that cover a very wide range of different things. The first big topic that the book covers is how to teach books. This section covered how it is okay to teach to the students’ needs and not cover the whole entire book. Students should be able to understand things such as plot summary, but time should also be spent having students learn how to develop and write in a way that shows academic understanding of the book that they are covering in the class.
